Connections across courses
Students taking more than one course get more out of a session by recalling the related session that comes before it. Dates are for autumn 2026.
Sampling and the CLT come in Statistics I about a month earlier
After seeing the central limit theorem through simulation in Statistics I, students meet the same idea in Social Research as the answer to why a sample can tell us about a whole population. Statistics II session 6, on the same day, looks at when that assumption breaks down.
Survey design and research ethics come first in Applied Information Literacy
In Applied Information Literacy, students plan their own survey and put research ethics and question writing into practice. Social Research session 3 then revisits that experience as methodology.
From correlation to causation, Statistics I to Statistics II
Once students can read correlations in Statistics I, Statistics II examines when a correlation is not a causal relationship, focusing on confounding. Statistics II is designed as the continuation of Statistics I, and the two run back to back on Tuesdays.
The same tests, in Python and in R
Behaviormetrics at Hokkaido University runs the tests covered in Statistics I and II in R. The ideas are the same and the tools differ. All sites are public, so either one can be used to see how the other language does it.
Applied Information Literacy runs as two sections with the same content. Introduction to Information ended in spring 2026, and its materials site remains available. Behaviormetrics is taught at Hokkaido University. All course sites are in Japanese.
